We enjoyed getting to know Brooklyn's great Afrobeat band Super Yamba when they visited Studio B in 2017. Now they've teamed up with Benin's Leon Ligan-Majek, a.k.a. Kaleta, who fronts this otherwise all-instrumental ensemble. Kaleta spent his teen years in Nigeria, playing with both Fela Kuti AND King Sunny Ade, the two greatest legends of Nigerian Afrobeat music. It's a mighty big sound, filling up Studio B and then The Mothlight in West Asheville Wednesday night.

The Asheville Citizen-Times - Casey Blake, Opinions and Community Engagement Editor, updated WNCW's More to the Story about an investigation on internal ratings for the Charles George VA Medical Center Nursing Home (Asheville) and the number of Western N.C. popular water fall sights leading to several drowning deaths.  The interview first aired on July 11, 2018.

This past weekend, our staff were on site at Wicked Weed's Funkatorium in downtown Asheville.  As part of the Barrell House Sessions, Jeff Sipe's Little Big Band with Mike Barnes performed.  WNCW was a media sponsor.  Tune into 88.7FM on Wednesday, July 25 during the 12 noon hour for the broadcast of this live session.

This is the first concert as part of the Barrell House Sessions.  Stay tuned for details on more shows that will be part of this series.

Imarhan

We've got two great sessions from the road: Recorded live at the Mothlight in Asheville, it's the desert blues of the South Algerian band Imarhan. The group's brand new album Temet that has really impressed us. Also, from onstage at the Orange Peel before their respective shows there a couple of weeks ago, we'll hear M. Ward and Laura Veirs in exclusive WNCW performance/interviews.
