WNCW's Music Mix with Martin Anderson

Martin mixes up music from Bluegrass, Jazz, Jam bands, Singer/Songwriters, Blues, and Celtic genres to give you a crossroads of music that you won't hear anywhere else on the radio.

Features throughout his music block include:

  • Birthday/Anniversary spotlights of musicians you know, or didn’t know you knew
  • “Ten O'Clock Doc” tribute to Doc Watson Mondays at 10AM
  • Art Break at 11:30AM
  • NPR Headlines at the top of each hour
  • Occasional interviews & performances from touring artists

The Honeycutters are playing a few southeast gigs this month, including the Salvage Station in Asheville on Friday, before spending August and September in Europe. Amanda stops by to update us on the latest, including some brand new material, most likely. Nice sticker on their van, by the way; we've got some if you need any...

Jim Lauderdale Live Friday, July 6th at 11am

Jun 28, 2018

Jim's got both a 1979 bluegrass collaboration with Roland White, AND a brand new studio album called "Time Flies", both set for release on August 3rd. He's been pretty much the hardest working man in Americana music these past many years, and if you have a hard time keeping up with all that he's up to, you're not alone. But he happens to have a free half-day or so in our area, which is also his home turf, so we are fortunate to have him in for a quick session in Studio B. Welcome back, Jim!

Reverend Freakchild Live Monday, June 25th at 11am

Jun 25, 2018

This reverend is on a mostly radio station tour currently, including Studio B for songs from his new album "Dial It In".  The Reverend Freakchild grew up in Hawaii, holds a degree in philosophy and religion from Northeastern University in Boston and now currently resides in Colorado pursuing a Master of Divinity Degree at Naropa University.  He continues to perform and preach saying, "Music is my religion. Through song I seek transcendence!"

This trio of regional musicians promises to create a memorable, unique blend of traditional Japanese and Appalachian music! Originally from Osaka, Japan but a Swannanoa resident for many years, Akira Satake fell in love with the banjo at a young age, and is a master shamisen player (and a master ceramicist as well.)  We know Anya Hinkle's great work fronting Tellico and Dehlia Low, and are happy to welcome her for a number of Studio B sessions this year.

Cicada Rhythm Live Friday May 4th at 11am

Apr 26, 2018

What a beautiful new release this Atlanta-based duo of Andrea DeMarcus and Dave Kirslis has. It's called "Everywhere I Go", on New West Records. They play Knoxville Thursday, and West Asheville Friday. In between, a visit to Studio B (with or without dogs?)
