What is podcasting? Podcasting is an easy new way to automatically download audio programs to your computer, iPod or other MP3 player. It's as simple as setting up a program on your computer to automatically download audio programs you want to hear; when we update it online, your computer will select and download your preferred programs automatically so you can listen at your convenience.
How does podcasting work? Sometimes life gets in the way of hearing your favorite radio programs or, maybe an extended version of the interview you heard is available only by podcast. When you subscribe to a program's podcast, every episode will always be automatically downloaded after it airs -- you'll never miss a broadcast again! Podcasting lets you listen whenever and wherever it's convenient for you.
How can I start receiving podcasts from WNCW? In order to listen to podcasts you will need to first install a podcasting program; we highly recommend Itunes. After installing Itunes, click on the 'Advanced' tab at the top and choose 'Subscribe to Podcast' from the drop-down menu. Then just enter the URL of the podcasts to which you'd like to subscribe. Itunes will continually check the Internet regularly and start a download whenever it finds something new from the WNCW programs you selected.
You may also use WNCW's free Pubcatcher podcast manager. You choose which programs you want subscribe to, and Pubcatcher will check for new downloads, too. You'll find WNCW's podcasts and WNCW's favorite podcasts from other stations in the list of programs as well as another list of all public radio podcasts -- so you can subscribe quickly and easily to all your favorites!

Why doesn't WNCW podcast its music shows? Because a podcast involves audio being downloaded to your personal computer or MP3 player, the recording industry's legal requirements currently make it very difficult to produce a legal podcast. NPR and other public radio stations are negotiating with the recording industry to be able to include music in podcasts, but until then we are unable to podcast music.
How much does it cost to use these podcasts? Podcasts are free for you to use, but expensive to produce and serve. To help support WNCW's podcasts, you can become a member. Or, if you are interested in underwriting a podcast series, contact kateb@wncw.org
